LG Optimus 3D: A new leap in mobile phone technology

The LG Optimus 3D is misleading at first glance. It is only a few millimeters thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S2 and is well up to date with smart phone trends with a 4.3 inch display. If you take the device in your hands, it will weigh a tad more than regular handsets at 168 grams. However, once you turn the device on to its rear side, you will definitely notice that the LG Optimus 3D is no ordinary smart phone.

The LG Optimus 3D, is the first ever 3D compatible handset to be released. The most noticeable feature of the handset is the dual rear facing cameras. The s 5 megapixel cameras allow users to take 3D still shots and record 3D videos. In addition to the two cameras, the LG Optimus 3D also comes equipped with a front facing camera for video conferencing. At 1.3 megapixels, the resolution of the front facing cameras is adequate for video calls.

The design of the LG Optimus 3D is sleek and slim and with the added novelty features, the size is a comfortable one. However, the additional weight does have the ability to be noticeable over long periods of time.

The Android handset is powered by a “tri-dual configuration” which consists of 1GHz dual-core processor, dual-memory architecture and dual-channel. In other words, the LG Optimus 3D is a powerful device. In addition it will provide all the standard mobile phone features of today. Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, a personal organizer and 8 GB of internal memory makes the LG Optimus 3D an interesting device to behold. It is also capable of supporting DLNA/HDMI connections as well.

The screen is the real novelty feature of the device. Offering 800×480 resolution and touch screen capability, the screen is somewhat similar to that of the Nintendo 3DS which is also capable of creating 3D images without the aid of glasses. The results, which added depth to video footage or pictures, were quite impressive. However, the battery life is quite a disappointment as the LCD screen requires more power to operate. With a standard 1500 mAh battery, the LG Optimus 3D will have to be plugged in every night if you are to enjoy its full features on a daily basis.

As for the multimedia features, the LG Optimus 3D offers the ability for users to stream media content directly to the handset using DLNA. The device offers full 3D functions, even the sharing of 3D content over the Wi-Fi. However, to make the most out of the Wi-Fi sharing capabilities, users will also require a micro-HDMI cord as well as 3D enabled HDTV.

In conclusion, the LG Optimus 3D is a powerful device packed with a novel feature. Although it offers cutting edge 3D features, internet compatibility and multimedia functions, the manufacturers have clearly not forgotten that the LG Optimus 3D is indeed a mobile phone at the end of the day. The call quality is just as impressive as all of the other features and despite a couple of minor drawbacks,This is a solid investment at £515.
